I love the irony of contradictions. Humans are many things but consistent is not one of them. Nobody stands up to scrutiny as perfect, so why don’t we stop pretending?
Today we hear kids are bullying parents to be environmentally aware, when it is acknowledged the children are huge wasters of the planets energy and resources.
Eco-warriors flying around the planet. Ethical campaigners dressing at Primark and supporting cheap, fast fashion which wrecks communities where they are manufactured.
The politically-correct who grasp onto any good cause to promote and campaign for with humility, compassion, sympathy and empathy…are the very same people who turn social media platforms into toxic hate filled area full of hate, vitriol, where they encourage their ‘friends’ to kill themselves on live Facebook streams and knife each other in the streets.
Nuns and priests who are wicked to children in their care, off-duty police officers caught drink-driving.
Women who protest to models being employed at sporting events on the grounds its sexualizing and objectifying females post half naked images of themselves on Instagram.
Prince Harry says ‘every time I see a camera, hear a click and see a flash it brings back all the bad memories of my mother’. Yet without hesitation he will now be touting and approaching many people for his new lifestyle which will inevitably involve a willingness to embrace flash photography. Meghan seems very at home in front of the camera and this new power couple will have to essentially flaunt themselves to ensure the kind of lifestyle they want.
Someone local to us describes herself as a tree-hugger, eco-warrior and such like. She even makes a point of telling off the local charity volunteer for leaving his engine running whilst getting out to collect donation sacks……she doesn’t appear to grasp that switching the engine on and off wrecks the battery far quicker and throwing batteries into landfill causing acid seeping into the earth is exponentially more harmful than the emission generated from leaving the engine running a minute. Same person owns a diesel car, and has a caravan in tow to further increase fuel usage, she also sits in the garden burning wood in the fire pit all summer spewing fumes into the air and gets countless deliveries to her door, all in vans that leave their engines running.
Delivery drivers rev their engines and sound their horns every day objecting to people who use the road rather than the footpath to push trolley carts of stock……then 5 minutes out of their cab they are doing exactly the same and arguing with the van driver pipping a horn at him for blocking the road that guy.
The quicker we acknowledge and accept our foibles, hypocrisy and double standards; we are all guilty of it, the better. Too many people adopt a pompous ‘holier than thou’ stance with a self-righteous attitude and take a condescending tone to other but their purported perfection is just as far away as the rest of us.
